This is a course that will introduce you to drawing animal portraits with watercolour pencil. Using photographs supplied by the tutor you will learn how to use the pencils both dry and wet, how to draw eyes and fur and how to produce realistic drawings of wild animals and pets using watercolour pencil.

Jonathan Newey is an award winning artist with over 16 years of experience teaching art courses in adult education. He has extensive experience in a wide variety of mediums including watercolour, acrylic and watercolour pencil.  Jonathan will be giving a demonstration of a pen and wash painting with waterproof ink pen and watercolour wash. During the demonstration he will be discussing the tools and materials he is using and will demonstrate some of the techniques that can be learnt on his courses at Farncombe.

This course will help both the beginner and students with some experience to understand how to paint realistic wildlife pictures with acrylic paint.  Using step by step demonstrations, Jonathan will show you how to paint eyes, fur and elephant/rhino hide using thick and thin paint.  Photographs of animals will be provided and the course will include the different effects and techniques achievable with acrylic paint.

FRIDAY NOVEMBER 5TH-SUNDAY NOVEMBER 7TH 2010
This is a course aimed at beginners that will introduce them to painting landscapes with watercolour. The students will be shown how to paint with watercolour using such techniques as flat washes, colour mixing and different brush strokes. Topics covered include trees, skies, composition and shadows. Using demonstrations and working from photographs supplied by the tutor, the students will be shown how each technique can be achieved and the tutor will be on hand to give group and individual help and critique. By the end of the course the students will have produced a number of exercises and also a watercolour landscape of their own.
